Studied at AUA in Fall 2021

Hometown: Munich, Germany

I knew that a semester abroad would give me experience and knowledge that I wouldn’t obtain in any other way. For this reason, I was always sure that I would do a study abroad someday.

I visited Armenia as a tourist in the summer of 2020. I fell in love with the country and the people that I started to consider Armenia as a possible study abroad destination. Online I came across the website of AUA and saw that AUA is offering a Study Abroad program, where I can take classes in English. Then I applied.

I chose Armenia as a study abroad destination in the first place and AUA turned out to be the only university in Armenia that offers courses in English for my field of study. However, AUA was a perfect fit, with high academic standards being a renowned university.

The American system of education is quite different from the German one, so I needed some time to get used to and adapt to the new way of learning. Outside AUA it was difficult sometimes with the language barrier as many people still can’t understand nor speak English.

My study abroad at AUA confirmed my desire to work in an international environment and equipped me for this with the classes and the improvement of my English skills.

I had countless amazing experiences during my stay. We took numerous adventurous trips throughout Armenia, had many fun get-togethers, especially after exams, eating delicious food all day, exploring the restaurants of Armenia, and playing tennis for the first time at the AUA tennis club. Two distinct highlights were seeing the German football team play in Armenia and watching the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with 50 Armenians and losing it completely when Armenia was announced as the winner.

Definitely consider AUA as a possible study abroad destination! Armenia has much to offer and is a real insider destination.
